Furano

Furano is one of the best Ski Resorts in Japan.

Hiking season starts around mid June, and many hikers come to enjoy the what the mountains here have to offer.
In the East, Mt. Tokachi with its volcanic smoke and Mt. Furano with its alpine plants. In the South , Mt. Ashibetsu for advanced hikers and mountain climbers.
On the river and lake, you can enjoy exciting rafting and canoeing with beautiful views.


Harvest season.
Golden colored wheat fields are everywhere. It makes the fields look like a patchwork quilt. Around September, the difference of day and night temperatures become greater, and the spectacular changing color of the leaves begins. The cooler air indicates that snow will be here soon.
Guests can enjoy the autumn scenery and ONSEN (hot springs) during this season.

The season for a new beginning, green leafs and flowers come into bloom. Mid May is a great time to see the cherry blossoms and is also the best season for picking wild vegetables.

〈Sightseeing〉
One of the most popular places for sightseeing in Japan.
Furano and the surrounding area from Asahikawa to Shimukappu is rich in nature, and surrounded by high mountains.
There are few other places in the world where you can play lots of activities all year around such as Skiing & Snowboarding, cross country skiing, curling, golf, rafting, canoeing, fishing, hiking, Mountain Biking to name a few.
The flowers are gorgeous in summer, especially the sweet smelling lavender fields that are the symbol of Furano.
Asahikawa zoo which offers guests the chance to walk with penguins in winter and see polar bears is the most popular Zoo in Japan.

〈Winery〉
Furano has produced local wine since 1972.
The winery is run by the local municipal and undertakes the whole process of wine production from grapes to wine. The winery stands on a hill with a beautiful view of Furano town and Tokachi mountains. In summer, there is also a small lavender field located in the winery vicinity. Visitors can observe the production process and participate in wine tasting.
The winery holds its annual Wine Festival in late September, which is one of the Fun events in Furano. You can enjoy their wine with local food.

〈Agriculture〉
Agriculture is one of the main industries of Furano. It has rich soil and a suitable climate to grow vegetables and fruits. Well-known local produce includes onions, carrots and cantaloupe (rockmelon).
Climate with a significant difference of temperature between day and night is perfect for producing flavorsome fruits and vegetables.
It is also beneficial in the production of cheese and wine.
